Microsoft Dynamics GP
is a comprehensive business-management solution built on the highly scalable and
affordable platform of Microsoft technologies.
It offers a cost-effective solution for managing and integrating finances, e-commerce,
supply chain, manufacturing, project accounting, field service, customer relationships,
and human resources.
Microsoft Dynamics GP works with and like other Microsoft products that are well
known throughout businesses worldwide. That means people across your organisation
can use skills and products that they already know—like a web browser, Microsoft
Office System products, and Microsoft SQL Server—to access and communicate information
managed within the system.
Microsoft Dynamics GP works like and provides a high level of integration
with other widely-familiar tools, such as Microsoft Office System and Microsoft
SQL Server. This allows people across your organisation—as well as business partners—to
use skills they already have to adopt new processes. It also expedites data sharing
across applications. For example, employees can view and share Microsoft Dynamics
GP data from within Microsoft Office applications, or view budgeting, planning,
and reporting from a Web browser. And because all of the components are integrated,
information is automatically shared across applications. This helps eliminate time
wasted on redundant administrative tasks.
A few of the reasons why you should choose
Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 over any other ERP packages:
Flexibility—Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 offers out-of-the-box functionality,
so you can get up and running quickly. But, don’t worry if your requirements change
down the road, this system is designed to grow with you. Additional modules are
available to serve a wide variety of business needs.
Familiarity—Dynamics GP 2010 is built to look like and work with the other Microsoft
products (Outlook, Word and Excel) you and your employees use on a
daily basis.
Productivity Enhancement - Not only does Microsoft Dynamics GP
2010 enable you to rapidly integrate and automate your financial and operational
processes. It also makes it easier for your employees, vendors and customers to
share information and insights with one another.
Additionally, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 provides:
Scalability—Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 has proven scalability to
at least 1,000 users and offers functionality across multiple business areas to
help ensure that this is a solution your organisation will not easily outgrow. Flexibility—A
wide variety of modules are available to help you streamline activities across your
organisation.
Proven return on investment (ROI)—Independent studies by Nucleus
Research show that 87% of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 small and medium-sized business
customers achieved a positive ROI with an average payback period of 21 months, and
that 71% of enterprise customers had achieved a positive ROI with an average payback
of 23 months. A role based user experience—Users can expect an individualized, task-centric
experience grounded in pre-defined, customizable role templates and information
views. Executive Dashboards—These allow access to the key metrics you need to quickly
make decisions and take action. Perform ad hoc queries with Excel report templates,
based on more than 200 SmartList favourites you can store on your SharePoint Server
and instantly refresh. Workflow and Unified Search—When deployed with a Microsoft
Office SharePoint Sever you can unite your structured data (created within Microsoft
Dynamics GP 2010) with unstructured data and documents (created outside the system)
thus drastically improving workflow. Strong Compliance Functionality—Microsoft Dynamics
GP 2010 incorporates strong audit trail capabilities throughout the system, including
GL Account Level security. Stability—Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 is the dependable
solution you’ve been looking for to support your business-critical
needs, today and in the future.
Bycodeit - Making GP Dance for you!
Well that's some of the blurb from Microsoft on Dynamics GP, I don't want
to go on about it I would rather point out some of the useful features that will
save you money and improve your experience when you use Dynamics GP with a bespoke
Bycodeit Web or Windows front end to tailor your data entry to your
business needs. The advantages of this approach are many-fold, it will save you
money and time and therefore even more money!
Why would you want a bespoke front end?
Like virtually all of the larger accounting system software vendors, Microsoft provides
licences that limit the number of simultaneous users of the system. This can get
expensive if you have a large number of salesmen that need to enter orders as they
go. These licences have to be renewed yearly and this becomes a significant on-going
cost of operating your accounting system.
An intranet web font end allows users to create and store sales orders in the
front end; these orders can then be posted to GP in batches by a licenced GP user.
You only need licences for your accounting team to review and finalise the processing
of orders before committing to the general ledger.
Our sales front end uses eConnect to transfer data to GP. The licencing requirements
for use of eConnect has caused some confusion as the original wording of description
of the developer toolkit implied that eConnect carried an external connector licence.
Due to this ambiguity Microsoft have stated that users of eConnect prior to 30th
of April 2010 can have the external connector licence for free. Where users have
purchased eConnect after this date have to buy either an external connector licence
(Provides unlimited access to external users) or sufficient DCO (Dynamics Connector
for Office) licences to cover their needs.

At Bycodeit we can use our experience of the Dynamics GP APIs and .net Web and Windows
forms to rapidly develop bespoke front ends which will pay for themselves in no
time at all and provide the information you need in a format you want.
An incoming sales call should be handled by an operator who has everything they
need to know about the customer's purchase history and preferences. Conventional
accounting systems don't offer rapid access to this information. A Bycodeit front
end can provide this information at a glance. The operator can make customer centric
decisions and hopefully the customer appreciates this interaction and personal service
and therefore remains loyal in a competitive market.

consumer products
Intranet Front End Example
The Image to the right is of a BCI Intranet based web front end linked to Dynamics
GP.
The customers data can be rapidly located by customer number, name or post code.
All the important customer information is available at a glance, you can drill into
purchase history, payment history, and create new orders all from the same page.
Customer notes and a diary are also available.
Other functionality such as Stock Transfers, Product Enquiries, Promotion Management
and Batch Round Posting are also accessible from the Customer Enquiry Page. User
access and feature controls are accessible from the Utility link.
Intranet Order Line Entry Example
This image shows a typical order line entry screen. The product can be located using
previous order history or by searching for item number, or product description.
Any applicable promotions are automatically applied and discounts shown. The salesperson
can negotiate a one off deal based on price or percentage discount if required.
On this example the reserved stock option is available allowing customers to purchase
large quantities of a product in advance and take form this reserve on future orders.
An alternative item feature is used to indicate where a product was supplied as
an alternative to the customer's desired product.
Once the order goes to the picking stage, operators can update the order with exact
weights and modify quantities if necessary. Lot numbers and Best Before dates can
also be entered.
